Authentic Spanish Picadillo with Olives and Dates
Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground beef
- 1/2 cup pitted Spanish olives, sliced
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1/2 cup pitted dates, chopped
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- For serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and diced red bell pepper to the skillet and sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the ground cumin, and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Mix well.
- Add the sliced Spanish olives and chopped dates to the skillet and stir to combine all ingredients.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary before serving.
- Serve hot over cooked rice or with crusty bread.
