Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 1 cup of frozen peas
  • 1 cup of beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups of prepared mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large cast iron skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and diced carrots, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, then stir in the frozen peas. Season with salt and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Spread the prepared mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture in the skillet. Smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
  8. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the top is slightly golden.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
