Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1 pound of ground pork
  • 1/2 cup of finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
  • garnish with additional parsley

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef, 1 pound of ground pork, 1/2 cup of finely chopped onion, 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley, 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs. Mix the ingredients until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the meatballs in batches, searing them on all sides until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add 1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  6. Return the meatballs to the skillet with the sauce. Cover and let them simmer for 20 minutes to cook through.
  7. Serve the meatballs hot, garnished with additional parsley and sprinkled with extra Parmesan if desired.
