Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef, cornstarch, and half of the soy sauce (2 tablespoons). Toss well to coat the beef and let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sear for 2-3 minutes until browned, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fully cooked. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the sliced red bell pepper and chopped green onions to the skillet. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Pour in the remaining soy sauce and brown sugar. Stir to combine, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef and vegetables.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds if desired, over steamed rice or noodles.
