Savory Sausage and Lamb Skillet Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground lamb
- 1 pound of Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 medium carrots, diced
- 1 cup of frozen peas
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups of prepared mashed potatoes
- 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large cast iron skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and diced carrots, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground lamb and Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, then stir in the frozen peas. Season with salt and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Spread the prepared mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture in the skillet. Smooth the top with a spatula.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the top is slightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
