  • Lasagna noodles, 12 sheets
  • Olive oil, 2 tablespoons
  • Ground beef, 1 pound
  • Spicy Italian sausage, 1 pound, casings removed
  • Onion, 1 medium, diced
  • Garlic, 3 cloves, minced
  • Marinara sauce, 4 cups
  • Ricotta cheese, 15 ounces
  • Egg, 1 large, beaten
  • Mozzarella cheese, 3 cups, shredded
  • Parmesan cheese, 1 cup, grated
  • Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic, ground beef, and spicy Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook until the meat is browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 5-10 minutes until heated through. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, beaten egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  6. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a large baking sheet (about 18x13 inches).
  7. Layer 4 sheets of lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, one-third of the mozzarella, and one-third of the meat sauce.
  8. Repeat the layers: noodles, remaining ricotta, another third of mozzarella, and half of the meat sauce.
  9. Top with the final 4 sheets of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  10. Cover the baking sheet with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  11. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  12. Allow the lasagna to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
